Sentence case error in writer

Don’t know if this is a bug or not, but… I’ve put the sentance case onto my toolbar, and I’ve been using it to change full cap sentences to sentence cased ones. I’ve noticed though, that it’s refusing to capitalize the first word of the first sentence. If I do more than one sentence at once, the following sentences are fine, but the first word gets dropped to lowercase, regardless of whether or not its highlighted.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Also discovered on this little adventure, if I bold or italic the full cap sentence before I change the cases, it causes a cap-lock situation in that area that will not type in lowercase no matter what. I have to delete past the area and rewrite the sentence or back up before I changed the bold/italic part. Never experienced this before.
