Setting default font when creating new document or drawing

Is there any way to set the font to always start at a certain one and with a certain colour when opening or creating a document without having to change it for every document. It always starts with Accord Heavy SF and with a size of 18 and a colour.

The default for Writer on a new installation for Default Paragraph style, from which Body Text inherits, is Liberation Serif 12 point.

There are three ways the font might be set for Writer. The first two assume you haven’t set a different default template.

  1. If you have ticked Apply Styles in Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoCorrect Options > Options then this might start your document with a Heading 1. If you press Enter and start typing does the font change?
  2. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts (Western). The field Default defines the font from which Default Paragraph inherits; in a new installation it will be Liberation Serif 12
  3. A template with different fonts might have been set as default. From Writer click File > Templates > Manage Templates. In the dialogue, are there any templates with a tick next to them? If there are it has been set as default, overriding the built-in default template. If you right-click it and select Reset Default then the built-in template will be active again and the font set in step 2 will be default.

Creating a default template can be useful if you frequently use the same settings or particularly for Draw which does not have any other method of setting defaults:

  • Set up the page as you like it, including Fonts, margins, sizes, etc.
  • Click File > Templates > Save as template, give it a name and tick the box Set as default template
