Simple Questions about default settings

I tried to set the default font to Arial or Tahoma, but after opening a new file, it keeps getting back to Liberation Sans in LO Calc and Liberation Serif in LO Writer.
I tried the solutions in this forum, but some options are not available anymore or not working.

In LO Calc, I want to set the numbers to default on using “.” for separations of thousands without having to set it every time. (like 123.000,00)

In LO Writer, I want to be able to make most of the document be portrait pages, with some of them being landscape for data and table presentations.

How do I solve those problems? Sorry for lots of questions, but it seems Libre Office isn’t that user-friendly for beginners. I hope I’m wrong!

Using Libre Office 7.5.8.2 (x86_64)
Interface: pt-BR
Using the software on a company computer without an admin user, just an employee one.
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

  1. it names Templates: Chapter 10, Working with Templates or English documentation | LibreOffice Documentation - LibreOffice User Guides

  2. You can read the manual for Calc

  3. You can try Portrait or landscape » Extensions or learn the Page Styles

Everything related to personal defaults is configured in Tools>Options. You have specific sections for the various components of the suite (Writer, Calc, …)

Writer (in LibreOffice Writer)

Basic Fonts (Western) allows you to set your preferred font face and size in various contexts.

There is no specific setting for page. Writer opens in Default Page Style which is configured for portrait. If you want some pages with a different orientation, read the Writer Guide and learn how to use page styles.

Calc (in LibreOffice Calc)

There is no specific setting to choose your default format. You have to create one.

Regarding the thousand separator, go to Language Settings>Languages and make sure Same as locale setting for Decimal separator key is checked (assuming the thousand separator is dot for pt_BR).

Full customisation

If your needs go beyond what is offered by Tools>Option, create your own template (.ott or .ots) and stuff inside all your customisations. Register this template with LO and make it your default so that your customisation is automatically taken into account when you create a new document.

Look at Tools>Options, Libre Office>Paths to see where templates are stored. You can add your own user directory to the list to make template maintenance/evolution easier.
