Soffice.bin at 44% cpu under Debian 6.0, peaking at 99%

Just a cursor inside a 500 page document is causing 30-44% cpu, peaking at 99%; 3% mem (150MB) (figures obtained using top).

Restarting LO drops the usage by half (I picked that up here). This is an old problem from way back, but it seems that the problem continues.

I’ve marked it for ‘writer’ as no other modules have been tested.

Brand new install, new profile, new OS.

Debian, LO-4.4.3.2

It looks like this may be due to lousy coding, as a good many other questions are indicating similar behaviour. Here are two recent ones (there are lots more; search for ‘not responding’ as one example):-

  1. Ubuntu Desktop 14: Freeze with 100% CPU after opening documents via API
  2. Windows 7 (and others saying ‘me too’): Libre Office 4.3 shows "not responding" windows7/64

There is a very old memory leak in OO/LO when starting it in headless mode - could this be related?
