This question pertains to Writer (LibreOffice 3.5.4.2). Is there a way to align one formula on the centre of a line and another on the right? For instance, in many academic books an equation is usually positioned in the middle and its reference number on the right. Any ideas?
I looked into the tables option. Results were messy. For fixed columns long equations disappear but alignment remain. Optimal column length displayed equations fully at the cost of alignment (columns are brought together). As for the format paragraph thingy, i have no idea how it works…

It uses tabs to line things up the way that you wish. What don’t you understand about tabs?

Inserting formula by Auto-Text directly addresses this need:
In the document type fn F3
LibreOffice inserts a table with a formula centered and its reference number aligned to the right. You just have to edit the formula.
Note: the code depends on the “locale” (eg nf in French.). You can verify by Edit AutoText:
