i just opened my LO for the day and all of a sudden the spacebar is acting weird. i will go about to press it to add a space it will do it but it won’t SHOW it like it should and when i use italic i can see it go back and then forward as i type. and some times when i hit the space bar it will do like a big huge space of like 10-15 taps of the bar and when i hit back it’s fine and just goes back to the not showing spacings and it’s becoming bothersome as i work. it shows the space on everything else just not on LO. i tried to reinstall it but it didn’t fix the problem. any reason why this is? i tried to looking into everything in options but nothing is working. i tried looking up to see if someone else has had this problem. again nothing. there where a few similar problems but non of them helped. please can someone get back to me asap. thank you.
If you expect any help, edit your question (don’t use an answer which is reserved for solutions) to mention your OS name and LO version.
Do you remember having pressed unwillingly Ctrl
with some other key, e.g. instead of Shift
since both keys are close together? This may have activated some mode.

is enabled, though the symptoms are not the right ones.
tried that tracking thing and nothings showing up. as i said i just opened it and picked up from where i left off last night. last night it was working fine with no problems. now it keeps adding those stupid 15 tap space to everything. i tried to hit a few buttons and nothing is working. and it is even adding hyphens when a word don’t need one it always does it at the end of a paragraph. like when i put in Massive… it adds the hyphen between the two S’s
And OS name is? LO version?
In case it is something related to the file (if it only happens on this one), edit your question to attach a reduced version of it. The “attach tool” is the paperclip. You can’t attach to a comment.
This only occurs in LO? If you have spare keyboard i’d swap it for the current one just to make sure it isn’t a hardware issue
kind of hard to do when
- i work on my lap top.
2, you can’t change out a new key board on a laptop. ESPCIALLY when there is NOTHING wrong with the laptop’s keyboard at all. i know cause i got a new one not a MONTH ago. - i CLEARLY STATED it works JUST fine with everything else it LITERALLT just Libroffice
- i shouldn’t NEED to give up my OS considering i BEEN using LO for almost a YEAR or more now and i have the news OS so it’s NOT the OS at all. it LO.
oh and yes. now when i use spell check it under lights most everything in blue saying there is another option for a word change when the way i spell a said word is fine and when i take a look at it it ends up remove the double name of a word or item i use when it’s fine.i even went as far as to make a new file and it is NOT the file at all. so something is clearly wrong. it did this before near the end of the last update so when will the next update be?
@Jami1 if you want help from other users then maybe you should read Getting Started for this site. I can see that you are upset, but nobody else can see what is obvious to you.
Anyway, it looks as if you have justifed text selected, change it to left-aligned, see Alignment
@Jami1: the blue wavy underline does not flag a spell check error but a grammar doubt. From this, I deduce your OS is Windows. Have you recently received a W update?
I came here because I was having a similar problem. This was the comment that did the fix for me. Center Alignment hides spaces until one types a non-hidden character. It makes since from a WYSIWYG point of view - the text stays centered until there is reason to adjust it, and spaces do not count as a reason.
Thank you,
Hi @StreamRunner if you click View > Formatting Marks Ctrl+F10 (possibly Ctrl+Fn+F10 on some keyboards) or click the icon you will see the spaces as little blue dots. Personally, I have it on virtually all the time.
Cheers, Al
I don’t remember if there is a way to force the end-line spaces to be shown.
But I think that this is not related to the original question, that could be an AutoCorrect options issue.
Edge space display is a bit inconsistent. They are removed from the “reference edge” and should be displayed elsewhere.
- left alignment: left edge spaces are suppressed as expected and displayed on right
- center alignment: all edge spaces suppressed while they should be displayed (but this behaviour is consistent with ignoring edge spaces to center text)
- right alignment: all edge spaces suppresses while they should be at left
- justified: all edge spaces suppressed as expected
