I’m totally lost for an explanation. I have Libre Office version 7.1.7.2 and am operating on Windows 11 Home. I had an Open Document Spreadsheet file that I had created a few weeks ago and just used yesterday. Today the .ODS file does not exist, but instead it is shown as a “FILE” and won’t open. Any advice on how to recover it?
Maybe your operating system have lost the association between the .ods file format and the LibreOffice. You can set is again.
Or maybe you saved the file without the filename extension. Try to rename it with extension .ods .
I can open other .ods files so I’m assuming that would not be the case if I had lost the association with Libre Office. File was created a few weeks ago so it had (keyword) an extension. I can’t remember if I updated it yesterday, but today I have nothing to open, except it shows as being “Downloaded”. Within that file I can see a thumbnail of the spreadsheet, but can’t get anything else to open…

Simply open the file with LibreOffice via menu:File>Open…
I guess that the file name has no file name extension which is why Windows indicates file type “FILE”. Microsoft Windows relies entirely on file name extensions when it tries to handle files with the right applications. At the same time it hides away file name extensions from the user which leads to massive misconceptions and problems.
