I prefer not to use Java, and LibreOffice seems to be at a point where that is possible, at least for my purposes (I have used Writer and Calc for a few weeks now without Java installed, and have been able to do everything I want to do). However, every time I invoke a LibreOffice application, some Java-dependent task is run (just after the progress bar on the small LibreOffice splash screen that pops up gets past half-way) and I have to dismiss a notice that JRE is required to do it. Does anyone know what that task is, and if might be able to disable it such that I do not have to click past the warning every time I start LibreOffice? I have already used/tried Options:LibreOffice:Advanced to uncheck “Use a Java runtime environment”, but that just changed the nature of the popup warning, it did not make it go away. I am running Version 7.5.8.2 (X86_64) on Windows 11. Thanks!
FAQ.
LibreOffice had never depended on Java to run - from its day one (and OOo before it, too). But the warning may either indicate that you have some extension that depends on it (say, LanguageTool); or it may be a false warning (lots of which were fixed over the years, but it seems that there’s no end of them - see e.g. recent tdf#156161 and tdf#156701; thanks everyone who files bugs for them, with steps allowing to repro and fix them).
Thank you, that was it. I had an extension installed with a previous LibreOffice install, some time ago, and it was automatically pulled into my new installation. Disabling it (with Tools:Extension Manager) resolved the issue. So this is not a general issue, but one specific to my case. I very much appreciate your help.
