Hi All,
I came across a weird anomaly when using copy and paste to create a new version of a .odt (Libreoffice Writer) file. The .odt file was exported from another tool (Novelwriter). I was trying to use Caliber to convert it to an epub document (to upload to Kindle), but the conversion failed. Long story short, I ended up creating a new version of the exported file by copy and pasting the entire content of the file into a new document. This copied version worked, Caliber could convert it to an epub.
This was weird enough, but there were some other oddities too. 1. The copied version was much bigger. The original was ~16.1k, the copied version ~25.3k. 2. The copied file used a different font to the original. The original used Liberation Sans 10pt, the copied version used Liberation Serif 12pt. Changing the font back to Liberation Sans 10pt (by modifying the style) in the copied file made no difference to the file size. 3. The headings generated in the original did not appear in the copied version.
Both versions a textually identical when opened with Libreoffice Writer (except for the missing heading).
I don’t understand how a copy and paste operation could create such an apparently radically different file. What is the copy paste function doing? Correcting errors on the fly? Adding a LOT of new information about the file? Converting the original file from an older format to a newer one? Why is it changing the font and removing the headings? Any ideas?
Thanks.
