I have just gone through a small collection of song lyrics and meticulously applied “Heading 1” to each title line. Then at the top of the document, I inserted a Table of Contents. The screenshot shows what I got. What am I doing wrong?

Please attach a sample file, reduce the size as much as possible without private information.

This is the complete file, thanks for your help with this

Your Heading 1 style does not have the Outline level set.

  1. In the Sidebar, right click on Heading 1 paragraph style and select Edit style
  2. In the dialogue that opens, select the Outline and List tab
  3. Under Outline, set the Outline level to Level 1. OK.
  4. Right click the Table of Contents, select Update Table of Contents

Or set up the paragraph style for every level in Menu>Tools>Heading numbering.

THANK YOU! Such a simple fix, none of the howtos I found before asking here said anything about checking the Style’s settings. VERY grateful
