Templates for master slide layouts in Impress?

Hi,

Is there a way to create a master slide template from an existing slide in Impress?

I modified one of my slides to look a certain way and I would like that to be added to the list of masters slides in my current presentation. How do I do that?

Thanks,

L

Have you tried to create a new master slide? (View>Master Slides, then duplicate an existing one)
Back to View>Normal, copy your modifications; then View>Master Slides and paste into the new master. Make modifications as desired.

Hi,

I thought I could duplicate master slides but I can’t. Copy, cut, and paste are greyed out.

When I create a new master slide and I want to delete the existing content, I get this error:

This function cannot be run with the selected objects

I’m on 7.5.3.2 if that matters (on Windows).

Thanks,

L

Well, it looks like it is not easy to duplicate an existing master slide. You have to design a new one, but this is not very complicated. A master slide has very few “standard” elements: a title area and an object area (plus optional date, header, footer and slide number areas). Most of formatting in these areas is done with styles which are global to the presentation.

So, right-click on any thumbnail in master view and New Master. This will position the base “elements” and you only need to adjust their size and position to look like the master you want to duplicate. After that, copy and paste the background shapes in the new master.

“This function cannot be run with the selected objects” appears whenever your selection contains the “elements” I mentioned above. I was able to copy all background shape in one go with Ctrl+A and removing the “elements” with Shift+click.
