Text color changes back to black when moving to another cell in Calc

When I select text within a cell and change the font color, the new font color occurs. But when moving to another cell, the font color in the cell that was changed goes back to black. Help! Thanks.

And that is what high contrast mode in LibreOffice does. You can disable high contrast for LibreOffice only. See help, Accessibility

Have you got high contrast turned on in your operating system? If so, the default for LibreOffice is to turn on high contrast for LibreOffice. This has the effect of turning off colour on-screen for that computer, although it will print and export colour as well as being visible on other computers To disable high contrast mode for LibreOffice, click Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Accessibility and set High contrast to Disabled

Highlighting before modifying

Basically, high contrast mode in LibreOffice turns off any colour background to the text and changed coloured text to black. The selection highlighting should change to black highlight with white text. You can change the selection highlighting in Preferences - LibreOffice - Advanced - Expert settings, find transparent selection and set it to False. Thank you for the reply.
I followed both suggestions, but the problem remains. For example, I select the text within cell A1 and turn the text red. That works. But then I click in A2 and the text in A1 turns black. If I click back in A1, the text is still black, but if I double click A1 it turns red again.

Have you activated View → Value Highlighting (Ctrl+F8) ?
