This has only started happening in the past day and is quite annoying. If I am typing text in the middle of the document (.ODT) file that has hundreds of pages of text and a few images and tables, the entire text window will move up one line and then a second later move back down. It’s similar to moving the vertical scroll bar one position. It may move up 1 line then down 1 line while I am typing a line. It does this repeatedly and I don’t know what is causing it. There is no image on the page when this happens. It occurs throughout the later half of the 300+ page document. Is there some sort of settings that could cause the screen to move up 1 line, then a few seconds later back down 1 line. All of this bouncing is starting to get annoying. If I stop typing, the bouncing stops within a second or so and stays stopped. It looks like Writer is doing some sort of background processing that is causing the page to reposition itself. It does NOT happen near the beginning of the document (first few dozen pages), so I’m thinking there is a table or image or something that is being repositioned a few dozen pages earlier from where I am typing. This bouncing happens on all of the later pages in the document. Is there a setting I can turn off? I can probably track it down eventually by going back and typing random text on lines of existing pages until it stops bouncing. Does anyone else have a better idea?
TIA
The document has cross-references, hiperlinks to the same document, or total pages fields?
It seems related to orphan and widow control.
Set muliple-page view and zoom to 20% to see more pages at once.
I have a lot of cross-references in the document. “It seems related to orphan and window control”. I set it to multi-page view and zoomed out and it is still bouncing when I enter a line of text in the last half of the document. What do I look for in multi-page mode? Do I just go back a few pages at a time until the bouncing stops when I enter text on a line?
What when one reference changes from 9 to 10, or from 99 to 100 and this adds a new line? Or when it changes from 1 to 2 (a wider character), or from 11 to 12, etc.?
Maybe there are other solutions, but I don’t know about them yet.
I may have found the problem. I looked at my table of contents and found a Header 4 entry in there that was an entire paragraph of text. I went to the page and discovered for some reason it looked like plain text but had the paragraph style set to “Header 4”. For some reason the entire paragraph became Header 4 paragraph style. I used “Clear Direct Formatting” and made sure it was set to “Text Body”. For the past couple of hours Writer has been behaving itself, no more bouncing.
