The Macro Program shuts down the app

When I click on the “Macro” tab, to run a Macro, the program shuts down. I have uploaded a new program, and using Revo Uninstaller, I have removed the old program, and re-installed the newest version. When I open the new program the same thing happens, when I try to run a macro, the program shuts down. Can someone please help me resolve this issue. Thanks so much.

Where? There is no “just Macro tab” in Writer (which you put into tags), even when you use tabbed UI (which you didn’t tell). What specifically you are doing?

Why? Was there a recommendation in user manual, telling you “use a third-party program doing unknown magic with installation, in order to fix something”?

Actually, there is HelpRestart in Safe Mode. Did you try that?

My apologies, I was unclear. When I click on Tools > Macros > Run Macros the Writer program shuts down. I have tried deleting the program using Revo Uninstaller, downloading a fresh program and re-installing that. Restarting my computer, and clicking on the same pattern above: Tools > Macros > Run Macros, and the program just shuts down. Sorry again for the confusion. I would really appreciate any help in getting this issue resolved.

I am still running Windows 10. Here’s a copy of my System Configuration: Device Name DESKTOP-N9C13BH

Did you try the HelpRestart in Safe Mode suggestion I gave above?

Hi Mike, yes, I did restart in Safe Mode, went to Tools>Macros>Run Macro, and it took me to the macro library, wanting me to pick a macro to run - but it did not start the macro program to let me actually create a new macro.

Back in regular mode, the same thing happens as before; clicking on the Run Macro button shuts the program down. A totally new thing I have never experienced. I sure hope there is a solution for this issue. really appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

A restart in safe mode does not cure something itself. It starts and ignores your settings/profile. If things work in safe mode we can assume the error is in the profile, wich can be reset to factory settings:

https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/01/profile_safe_mode.html

My usual suggestion is a backup of your old profile (as it contains for example your macros, so you don’t wish to loose the profile completely), then creating a fresh one.

PS:

Don’t use Run to edit. Start with “organize macros” and perhaps read the docs here:

Hi Wanderer, thanks for your help. Yes, I did restart in Safe Mode, and delete my entire profile after saving the current in a zip file. But still the same thing back in normal mode, clicking on the Run Macro button shuts down the program.

I did copy and paste a macro from the Help page you recommended into a blank macro from the Library mode, typing my name. I can go to the Organize Macros, Run this macro, and it works; it types my name. But coming back to the Run Macro and it shuts down the program. Shall I try to delete the program again, and do a new install? Thanks for all your help.
