The Master document and the styles and templates -- practical use and logic

I suppose, that one can get a bit frightened, when gets a huge and pedantic (and absolutely correct) answer, with all kinds of corner cases. A novice user might not see, which parts of the wall of text are real fundamental concepts of the discussed feature (usually there are very few of them), and which are actual corner cases, which may be very important to know for advanced using, but listing which may be even detrimental for an introduction to the feature, targeted to a learner… (I assume, that if you look deep into any implementation of any advanced feature in any application, you will get similar amount of corner cases. Which doesn’t mean it can’t be used efficiently, and even not require too steep learning curve - the details are needed only when basics are learned.)

I have read the user guide several times. I would rather spend my time writing than trying to understand an ambiguously-worded vague user guide. It should be obvious that people trying to use this feature are having their heads turned inside out. You know, it works this way unless you do that but this thing works in a different way than in some other situation so don’t do that because if you do you have to do that which affects something else so be careful not to blah blah blah blah blah.

Instead, I’ ve experimented with master templates; we use it in documentation files.

When you create a document based in a template (File > New > Templates) this document is attached to that template.

  • This occurs in ordinary documents created from Documents templates (ott) as in Master documents created from Master templates (.otm)

Of course you can also create a master document as a copy of another document to which you delete the content but if the first master document is connected to a Master template, his copy will be also connected to this master template.

  • Template Changer can connect /or disconnect both type of documents from a template. This can’t be done with the importation of styles in the sidebar.

It looks like a very-very good project!
thank you!!
