The simple task of adding page numbers to a LibreDraw Document

I am Simply trying to add page numbers to a LibreDraw Docuument?

Is this even possible?

Do the Master pages even work? I can add, remove and rename Master pages form the Master view - but they are not assignable to normal pages…

Is this the big broken mess that it seems to be?

Am I just wasting my time here?

  • List item

What’s wrong with menu:Insert>Page Number?

The problem with that is that it does not actually produce a page number on the page - that is all.

To add page number

  • Insert - Page number
    or
  • Insert - Field - Page number.

You get a text container with the <number> field inserted. Drag the border to move the container. (Do not drag the handles. That will resize the box instead of moving.)

To select master for each slide

  • Select the slide in the left pane
  • Select the master page name from the status bar (bottom edge of the Draw window).

If status bar does not show, enable it from menu item View - Status bar

Its looking like I can not place footer/ page number fields in the margins, does anyone know if this is the case?

Fields in a margin will not be shown. In Draw, the margin is currently a real not printed area. That problem is inherited from OpenOffice.org. It slipped in about 15 years ago.
To workaround the problem, simple set the margin to 0.
In case you need the margin as alignment line, use a snap line instead.
