there are some cells which I cannot type in to put new information. Most of the sheet is ok - only certain cells does Calc prevent me from typing over existing date. Even if I click on the cell, I am prevented from gaining focus on that cell.l

Have you tried Tools > Protect Sheet and unticking “Protect this sheet and the contents of protected cells”? Formulas and some fixed value variables are often protected to prevent accidental deletion or alteration.

You can Protect or Unprotect individual cells in the Format Cell dialog, Cell Protection tab. It only applies when you Protect sheet. The default for cells is Protected which makes it easier to just Unprotect those cells that need user input. Cheers, Al
