Toggle formatting marks won't show

Toggle formatting marks won’t show when activated. I’m using version 24.2.6.2 (X86_64) on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon. Is there a way to fix this? I tried uninstalling and installing Writer. Thank you!

Take a look below Display formatting if the boxes, [x], are marked:
