Tried Everything I could think of; AutoCalculate Function not working

Thanks in advance for any attention

I’m using LibrOffice ver 25.2.5.2

I am having trouble with LibrCalc: AutoCalculate Function not working

I am a fairly experienced workboook jockey, and have tried pretty much everything i can think of. No joy. So I took the plunge and spent an hour going thru all the stuff to get an acct here and figure out the GUI etc, so i could look for an answer; I foucnd several similar posts (autocalc not working)_ but no actual solutions to try. So here i am creating a ‘new topic’ ugh …

I’m sure this is something over-arching in nature. For instance I have re-saved my workbooks in several formats (including .xls) and i thought that might fix the auto-calc problem; but … nope … no luck there either.

At its most basic level, a spreadsheet performs calculations - executes formulas that folks type into cells. I used the very first spreadsheet software (lotus 123) in the early '80s and it was amazing. now its 40 yrs later, and workbook software has become SO complex that … we have apparently lost the most fundamental function it has - performing the actual calculation in a cell. Anyone want to help me solve this sad irony?

Not we, “you”.

<aside>Actually, VisiCalc was the first cab off the rank.

My first guess would be that your formulae are entered as text. Can you provide a sample file that shows the problem? See This is the Guide… for more about this site.

What’s your “everything”?
Two things are relevant:

  1. >Data>Calculate>AutoCalculate must be enabled (shown with the checkbox icon).
  2. The formulas must be “recognized” (parsed).

You surely won’t have assigned a handler to a sheet event (Content changed)?

If autocalculation then doesn’t work, I can only guess that your user profile is corrupted. (See post by @Wanderer).

Dear Wanderer, David, Wolfgang,

I figured it out: in [tools / options / LibreOffice Calc / view] i had ‘display formulas’ checked. I unchecked it and the formulas now show the RESULT.

Really appreciate you guys getting back to me. It actually helped me realize there must be something else i had done, and saved me a lot of time  thanks again you guys
