Unable to export to PDF on network

Have upgraded (?) to Libreoffice 4 on machines on network. I now find that I am unable to Export to PDF over the network. I can export and save locally and then transfer over the network but can’t export directly.
I have re-installed libreoffice-gnome on both machines as neither would save write or calc docs over network and this has worked but I still have the PDF problem.
Currently using Ubuntu 10.4 on machines but the server is a windows O/S
Wouldn’t even award myself 1 star for IT/computing knowledge so go easy
Thanks for any help.

Hi @Graeme,

Looks like you might be experiencing the same problem as described here:

To quote @yoonix:

GVFS and LO don’t seem to play along. I can mount with NFS or CIFS by hand and I do not have these issues. BTW, gedit was able to save just fine using GVFS. I am only having this issue with LO.

Anyway, I resolved it by just mounting my share with CIFS through my fstab instead of dealing with gvfs.

I tried to find a corresponding bug report, and this one looks promising:

  • fdo#54275 - Linux: Unable to “Save” (or “Save As”) New Document on Samba (gvfs) Mounted Share - ASSIGNED

Update: fdo#54275 was marked as a dupe of fdo#64311 – see @oweng’s comment below.

We should have a Release Candidate for 4.0.2 this week, if you’d like to test one out and see if it fixes your problems! You’ll be able to grab .deb package files from the Pre-releases page:

If you’d prefer to grab the stable 4.0.2 release, that will be out the first week of April.

Bug fdo#54275 was eventually resolved as a duplicate of fdo#64311 b/c the a v3.6 build option has evidently been disabled in the v4.0 series. Fix for the gvfs issue in second bug has been made for the v4.0.4 release. Just providing this so you can update your answer as I feel this is the reason why the OP had the problem.

going to resolve as BUG FILED.

@oweng: "Fix for the gvfs issue in second bug has been made for the v4.0.4 release. " That would be wonderful. As in my post in this thread, this afflicts me on a daily basis and my workarounds are quite tedious. Will be delighted to see this fixed. (I’m on Version 4.0.3.3 (Build ID: 400m0(Build:3)) at the moment, and still no joy.)

@dajare – If you have some time to test, please consider grabbing a 4.0.4 Release Candidate or a 4.1 Beta build and confirm that the bug is fixed.

Please put any comments about your testing on the fdo#64311 bug report.

@qubit1 - this is on Lubuntu - is it possible to leave my 4.0.3.3 release on, and install 4.1beta beside it? I quite like my current setup, and would be sorry to mess it up! But if it was in a good cause…

@dajare – Yes, you may install the versions in parallel. Here’s the wiki page with instructions:

@qubit1 - I did, and it didn’t. :frowning: Filed report.

Hi Graeme - just a quick note (not a solution, I’m afraid) to say that I have the same problem using LibreOffice 4 under Lubuntu on network with Windows Share drive. At first I thought it was LO, but I haven’t worked out a way for Lubuntu to create a folder on the shared drive, so it’s not just LO, at any rate.

Under Ubuntu 12.10, I could use Nautilus to “open” the network drive and save LO files, however. The similar process with PCmanFM in Lubuntu doesn’t seem to work.

I will keep an eye on your question for some more helpful answers!

Thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately this is my first micr0s0ft type experience with opensource :frowning:

I’ll wait for the stable release as I currently have a work around and I am a believer in ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’…I am essentially an end user but one who still believes in opensource.

Hi again Graeme: it would be good to know your “workaround”! Also, there might be some useful info in this ubuntu forum thread for others who might be watching: http://j.mp/Z2maxc
