Unprotected cell acts as if protected

Odd behavior in Calc

Unprotected cell in sheet acts as if it it protected when the sheet is protected, and produces a “Protected Cells cannot be modified” error when I attempt data entry in that cell.
When the sheet is unprotected, the cell shows as unprotected in Format Cells/Cell Protection .
In View/Value Highlighting, the cell does not appear gray/protected.
Yet when the whole sheet is set to Protected, the cell acts protected.

Any guesses what is happening here?

First, try shift-clicking all your tabs–that is, mark all of your sheets at once. Then unprotect them all. If you have protection attached to a style and ANY sheet uses that style then each of those sheets has to be unprotected before you can edit…or something like that.

Also, you might upload the offending ODS or a pared down version of it.

This may be a clue: The specific cell I’m having trouble with uses conditional formatting. How does one control the protection status of a conditional format? I don’t see any such control in the conditional format dialog.

Test workbook attached here:
See Cell L20.
When sheet is unprotected, cell L20 shows it is also unprotected.
When sheet is protected, cell L20 will not allow data, because protected.

You need to change the protection on the ‘Sunday’ style, unset protecting, applied with the conditional format.

How exactly does one control the protection status of a conditional format? I don’t see any such control in the conditional format dialog.

As mariosv said, the protection is applied in the style Sunday - edit that style to remove the protection.

Thanks for confirming that. So, I have selected cell L20, then Format / Conditional / Manage… and selected either of the available conditions, and then Edit.

What should I do then, to change the protection status?

Aha- -Now I understand. I was trying to edit the conditional style, but it was necessary to go to manage styles and edit the style applied in the conditional.

I believe that’s solved it, thank you.
