Unwanted and inoperable spell-check (etc) left sidebar

When I open some .odt files, a sidebar appears on the lefthand side (see image). Cursor hover brings up the functions, but they don’t respond to a click. There seems no way to hide / delete this sidebar. Right hand sidebar functions as normal, including hide etc options.

Any advice / suggestions would be welcome - there’s probably something blindingly obvious to most people, that I’ve done or need to do and can’t work out.

Unfortunately, no. The sidebar panel itself and its controls (Ctrl-F5 etc) have no effect on my unwanted left-side icons.

The toolbar is part of the LanguageTool extension.

I’m still not sure how it appeared, as the Language Tool hadn’t been installed previously.
