Update to Mac 26.8.0.3 added borders. Why?

Prior to updating to version 26.8.0.3 here’s how my spreadsheet looked:

After updating, it looks like this:

After fixing it (getting rid of the added lines), I closed the file. When I re-opened it, the lines were back again.

Is there anyway to get back to the way I had it before?

Which file format do you save?
Which formatting do you use “direkt” or “Styles”?

Give a sample file ODS(?), upload here.

I’m uploading a file that illustrates the problem. I save as .ods

When I edit out the lines to make it look as it did in my original screenshot, save & close the file, the simply re-appear when I re-open it.

I have no idea what formatting I use – how can I find out? I suspect I must be using the default as I never changed a setting.

Here are my observations regarding your table:
This file was likely an Excel file at some point; it contains cell styles with corresponding names.
Large sections of the table (individual cells) have direct formatting applied.
Parts of the columns are formatted using the “Header” cell style (indicated by a black border).

In short, the formatting is a chaotic mix.

The table appears to be a monthly schedule that is quite compact and easy to read.
I see two ways to clean up the table.
In both cases, the direct formatting must first be removed.
Select the entire table (the active area) and press Ctrl+M, then:

  1. Create cell styles for the various cell requirements and assign them to the cells.

  2. Select the entire table and apply an AutoFormat style.

In my example, I applied the “Financial” AutoFormat.
Of course, you can also create your own AutoFormat styles.

It’s a yearly financial file that probably goes back many, many years – I’ve not used Excel for a couple decades. I’ve never paid attention to styles in spreadsheets. But creating cell styles and applying them fixed the issue.

Interesting to me that it didn’t show up in Open Office nor did it show up in Libre Office until the 26.8.0.3 upgrade.

Thank you very much.

I see no evidence of Excel in the properties (they could have been reseted) but in the Styles:
