URLs Saved Differently DOCX or ODT

Good day. Searched for suggestions already. Using LO Writer 7.3.7.2 on Linux Mint, I need to embed a URL like

http:…/…/Treasurers_reports/2023/March.pdf

No matter the settings for “Save URLs relative to file system (or internet)”, Writer alters the URL on save to

http://Treasurers_reports/2023/March.pdf

It does this only when saving to DOCX format, ODT works fine. Short of defaulting my work to ODT (I have to collaborate with Word users), is there a workaround I’m missing?

Thanks for any help.

What the three dots mean in the original URL?

Beg your pardon. Can’t see how I made that mistake, it’s of course meant to be http:…/…/Treasurers_reports/2023/March.pdf

I’m intentionally using that syntax because the hostname changes depending upon which server I upload the file to (I’m editing the document in Writer and then exporting to PDF and uploading only the PDF with the embedded links.)

You didn’t do any mistake - except you didn’t mark the string using backticks, and the site engine replaced .. with ... automatically.

Your http:../../Treasurers_reports/2023/March.pdf is wrong anyway: it doesn’t need the http: part, because it’s intended to be a relative URL. It should be simple ../../Treasurers_reports/2023/March.pdf.

But in LibreOffice, it will always show as an absolute URL (see tdf#111957). The actual internally saved format will depend on what you tick in the Save URLs relative to settings.
