Using images in Header

Hi, when i am trying to create a header and import an image into it it works great and just as i need, however when i save it close and reopen the image is no longer there. is there a way to keep this in the saved document? thank you

Edit
Windows 10
Libre office 7.6
save format MsOffice 2007

The purpose for my post was because there is an import function within the software to bring in a image or bitmap inside the header and select how its to be displayed; Tiled, centred, top left etc. After doing this saving it and closing it on reopening it has disappeared. I appreciate answers, but Im not interested in workarounds or made dos. I like to understand the problem, the reasons why and apply a solution fixing the root cause.

so please unless you can help with this, please refrain from commenting

A header is just another text area, except it repeats on every page. Consequently, you can insert images here just as you would in your discourse.

To answer more precisely to your question, modify it (don’t use a comment; it is more contributor friendly if all relevant data is grouped at a single location) to mention OS name, LO version and, most important, save format.

close and reopen the image is no longer there

it is not just for Header, LibreOffice is not fully finished, among many features the displayed effect ≠ the really saved effect. So, when you reopen it, or use Menu Bar\File\Reload, you see the real work. Remember to have a test when editing. However, idk why you can not insert an image.

Are you sure Word 2007 format supports Header background images?

I cannot do that in Word 2010, I can make an image go behind text but it then spills over to the body of the page. I cannot make it a header-only background as there is no option to do that.

Always save in native format and only do a Save As if your recipient cannot open ODF. In that case consider if a pdf is the better option.

There are several ways to achieve your goal (background image covering only the header area) but they will persist only if saved native, i.e. .odt. The exact solution depends on the contents of your header. Solutions are based either on manipulation of paragraph styles or use of frames (and adjusting the parameters in a frame style). Are you familiar with these features? They have no exact equivalent in M$ Word.

Describe your header and attach a 1-page sample file.

The problem is that you are saving into a file format foreign from LibreOffice. Not all features, and the way features are implemented in LibreOffice can be translated to the features and the way these are implemented in Writer.

Do not underestimate the importance of the underlying technicity of the file formats. Also realize that both MS Word and LibreOffice have a long history and tradition. LibreOffice stems from a German office suite StarOffice. So how both offices designed features and technically implemented can be quite different. For some features, a lossless translation between the file formats therefore is not possible and should not be expected.

For more complex requirements, work with the native file format of the application you choose to use. Do not expect LO to be a full, exchangeable one to one alternative for MS Word. It isn’t. It does not intend to be. It would need to be rewritten from scratch to become that.

hi thanks for the reply. I wasn’t using it across software, only libre office. literally closed and reopened it in the same way and the imported image had vanished. not to worry, i can do it another way. thanks

In that case always save in Open Document Format, what you do will be saved exactly.
