I just upgraded to version 24.8.3 on my 64-bit Windows 11 box but the app doesn’t open! Anybody else had this issue?
You could try some of these strategies
- Add soffice.bin (C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\soffice.bin) to the Allowed list in your anti virus
- Click Start menu > Power > Restart (not Power off as that defaults to hibernate) to reboot Windows. Does it LibreOffice work?
- Click Control Panel > Programs and features then right click LibreOffice and select Repair. Or re-install LibreOffice.
- Did you see any error messages? See General Installation Issues (Windows) - The Document Foundation Wiki
- Can you open LibreOffice in safe mode? Click Start menu > All apps > LibreOffice > LibreOffice (Safe mode) > Continue in Safe Mode. If so, then see this page LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki, I would use the manual method to reset.
Same here. Windows logs the crash event.

removing the profile does not fix.
repair installation does not fix.
have rebooted several times since installation.
safe mode does not work.
Can supply crash logs/mem dumps if needed.
How did you go with the checks in General Installation Issues?
Have a look at the task manager, and if there is any soffice process running, kill it.
there is not a process running. in my experience, a hung process usually means a corrupt profile, but this is not the issue.
You can see it start, (maybe show in task manager for 1.5 seconds) and then crash, completely exiting.
The issue went away after the following steps:
- Download the installer
- Close ALL the apps
- Uninstall LibreOffice
- Run the downloaded installer.
