Old user but first ever needed help.
LO updated itself to 25.2.0.3 which didnt work, won’t open. I reloaded 24.8.4 which worked fine but despite turning off auto update, 25.2.0.3 sneaked in again and doesnt work.
Where do i go for solutions?
Try to start LibreOffice in Safe mode (in Windows Applications menu)
Disable Hadrware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCl, Vulcan)
okay thanks, that’s running…is this now my default mode of operation?
No, it is only for testing. It is probably one of three things:
- Hardware acceleration
- Extension that doesn’t work
- Damaged user profile
Let’s check in order of least impact
- Restart in Safe mode and when you get to the Safe Mode dialogue, select the Option button Configure and then tick the box Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan). Click the Apply Changes and Restart button
Does LibreOffice start OK? If so, don’t do any work but immediately click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering. Allow LibreOffice to restart and all should be good. - If 1. did not work then, in the Safe Mode dialogue, consider uninstalling all extensions
- The User Profile has a lot of user information in it so don’t jump in a reset it without making a backup first. I recommend closing LibreOffice and renaming the user folder to user2025-02-20 then start LibreOffice which will create a new user profile. Close LibreOffice and copy over the folders that you want from user2025-02-20 to user. Restart LibreOffice
