Version 7.1.6.2 crashes on windows 10

Windows 10, latest feature release. A fresh install of Libre Office 7.1.6.2 crashes on startup. From the Windows event log:

It runs in safe mode. Rebooting did not help. Uninstalled and installed version 7.2.0 and that worked fine.

Interesting that 7.2.0.x worked OK.
It looks as though it might have been tdf#144434 . From LibreOfifce 7.1.6 completely Unable to launch (Crash!) it looks as though 7.1.5.2 should work fine and I think there is very little difference.

It runs in safe mode.

This is then a sign that your user profile is broken.

You have to reset your user profile or select factory default.

I did try resetting to factory default but it made no difference. And, again, this was a new install. It never worked, other than safe mode.

Could have been a fluke, perhaps a bad block written during the install.

Skia is the graphics library used by Google Chrome. It doesn’t have bugfix releases, so LO basically just includes the current source code snapshot / milestone, with minimal own fixes. But LO can still run without it.

My guess is disabling Skia in Options >> LO >> View >> Graphics Output while in Safe Mode will fix the crashes. Occasionally updating your graphics driver might help too.

Such bug reports have been raised and may be related.
It’s even more likely if your PC’s graphics card is made by AMD.
Bug 144434 - LibreOffice 7.1.6.2 fails to start if Skia is enabled.

Perhaps it has already been resolved in the development version 7.1.7, but there are a limited number of users that can be tested and there is a lack of information.
If possible, please cooperate in testing and reporting.

I myself have experienced and heard that changing Skia settings does not work well in safe mode.
In such a case, the following procedure may be used, so I will introduce it.

1. Uninstall 7.1.6
2. Install 7.1.5
3. Disabling Skia in Options >> LO >> View >> Graphics Output
4. Install 7.1.6

confirming that resolve worked, however i used 7.0.6 instead of 7.1.5

1. uninstall 7.1.6
2. install 7.0.6
3. disable skia in options - libre office - view - graphics output
4. update to 7.1.6

I experienced this problem when running 7.1.6 as explained above on a Dell XPS with AMD Radeon HD 6770. I had been running 7.1.4 before with no problems. I upgraded to ‘dev’ build 7.2.1 and the problem resolved. It is a ‘nit’ but if I ‘pin’ Calc to taskbar the icon is blank - works fine, just looks bad. Note that I can ‘pin’’ Writer, Impress, Draw, Base and Math OK. I can ‘pin’ Calc to start with no problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this taskbar icon ‘nit’?
