Video embed link checkbox has no effect

I am trying to embed a video into a .ppt created in LibreOffice Impress 7.3.7.2. I have tried .mp4 and .ogg videos. When I import the video it plays fine in the slideshow. If I save the presentation, close the software, rename the video file, then reopen the .ppt, the video is gone.

When importing, I unchecked the box in the lower left corner of the insert dialog that says “Insert as Link.” I have tried checking and unchecking it again just to be sure.

How can I embed a video into my .ppt? Thank you.

Have you tried to save in native ODP format?

I have not because .ppt is required for the conference I’m attending.

To add more info: a .ppt is essentially a compressed archive. When I rename the .ppt to .zip and open it in archive manager, I can visit the /ppt/media directory and see a few .mp4 files in that folder. So it obviously worked at least three times. Can I manually move video files to that directory and modify the slide presentation code to point to those files?

I did the same steps in odp format and it does work. It embeds the video.
