Visibility of Calc status line icons

The bottom line on the Calc window is a status line. I’m not sure exactly what it’s called.
It has sheet number, language and Zoom on it among other things.

There is one icon that turns partly red when the file has been changed, but not saved yet. This icon and maybe a couple of others is almost completely invisible with my desktop theme (or whatever sets the icon appearances.) All the icons on the toolbars, etc. are fine.

What can I do to make this more visible without disrupting the rest of the display which is great the way it is? It really helps to be reminded when the file needs saving.

Side note: I have received a lot of help here, but haven’t seemed to be able to earn any points. It’s really annoying not being able to upvote the answers that have helped me.
On Stackexchange, I earn points for questions as well as for answers and have earned quite a few in several of their forums. I just can’t seem to get any traction here.

Side comment: IMHO the idea of collaboration sites is at its core a fantastic one. Unfortunately, nobody has ever come up with a way to do it that isn’t stupid, just because of how humans interact, not because of a lack of ingenuity. Points/ups/downs, etc., are all failed social engineering attempts at making a good idea work. Just use the help, enjoy the community, and roll with the punches. [I think this should be said now and then, but this comment will be happily removed by request.]

Side question: What is the point of earning points on the internet? Is it about karma or something?

If you use Elementary icons, the Save icon shows a large red dot over it if the file has changes that haven’t been saved, some others might also do the same. To set icons click Tools > Options > View and choose under Icon Style.

Thanks. That disabled my theme and I was able to see the icon - so some improvement, but it has a very tiny red asterisk in it that is still quite difficult to see. So, the problem seems to be the icon itself. I’d like it to be all or almost all red - or some other bright color that stands out. Then it would work in my dark theme as well (oxygen).

Can I replace that icon locally?

I think someone just liked one of my comments or something like that and I can vote now.

While I agree with you in principle, I think the way Stackexchange does it is a pretty good approximation. I find points motivating (though not as much as micropayments would be) and they give some sense of how experienced/well regarded the poster is. There’s a big difference between one of the demigods on SE with tens of thousands of points and someone who has a few hundred.

It’s also a quick way of acknowledging a helpful post without having to write a reply.

I don’t have that theme as an option. I need a dark theme. Are there more optional themes I can install and try?

Tools>Options>Personalization…

Thanks. Whatever I do there, I get an error. It says it can’t open a search at Mozilla.org.
