when i open an existing doc it shows up in drawing How do I change it?
What sort of document? Maybe it is a pdf? Or an .odg?
Edit (click pencil icon) your question to include a sample document and also Operating system and LO version. For OS and version is easiest to click Help > About LibreOffice and click the icon next to Version Information to copy the text to clipboard so it can be pasted into your question.
It’s a pdf
A pdf is a collection of objects arranged on a page, as such it is best opened in Draw which allows for objects arranged by position on a page.
If you want to copy the text from a pdf to Writer then you would be best to:
- Copy it from a pdf reader like Adobe Reader. Or
- Open it in an OCR program and save from there
- Use an online pdf conversion program
In Draw you can select multiple text boxes and select Shape > Consolidate text and copy that to Writer.
