What do I do about this error message that comes up every time I try to start Libre Office documents? Thanks

Error loading BASIC of document file:///C:/Users/Donald/AppData/Roaming/LibreOffice/4/user/basic/Standard/script.xlb/:
General Error.
General input/output error.

and this

Error loading BASIC of document file:///C:/Users/Donald/AppData/Roaming/LibreOffice/4/user/basic/Standard/dialog.xlb/:
General Error.
General input/output error.

I’m using Windows 10 Home edition (64-bit) and LibreOffice is the latest downloaded edition.

Hello,

reset your user profile using the following procedure:

To reset the user profile perform:

  • Start LibreOffice
  • Start in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and confirm the restart using button: Restart
  • Archive your profile expanding Advanced (click on the word Advanced right above Help button) and click Archive User Profile button
  • Select option Reset to factory settings
  • Activate [x] Reset entire user profile
  • Click button Apply Changes and Restart

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I’ll try it.

Thanks. It worked. It was probably Windows 98 since I last used the Safe Mode. I think it was easier then but perhaps my mind was more agile then (86 now).

It is not the Safe Mode of the operating system you may be familiar with, but Libreoffice’s Safe Mode, which causes LibreOffice to use a temporary LibreOffice user profile. So these are two different things not connected to each other. Running LibreOffice in its Safe Mode in general ist the very first action to be performed, if you are trying to find/analyse an error. If a problem doesn’t occur in Safe Mode, themn most probably the procedure above will fix the problem.

Fortunately LibreOffice Safe Mode functioned in Windows Safe Mode. The problem is solved even in a round about way. Thanks
