I was pasting links into a document and this giant rectangle appeared. It had a red play button on the bottom right corner, but then that disappeared.

What is it?

How do I delete it?
Thanks!

It is very hard to tell from a screenshot (and without details such as OS name, exact LO version and save format). And you didn’t enable View>Formatting Marks which have given potential clues about the rectangle contents.
My wild guess is a frame (or blank image) is hovering over your text. Have a look at the Navigator in the right side pane (or make it visible). See if there are “objects” in the Frames or Images sections.
For best diagnostic, attach the document, at least the offending page if it is larger than the allowed limit.
That was no button, but notifies there are more contents (in the frame) than can be shown.
This is a frame named div_backup_saved_lists. It contains a lot of empty paragraphs with manual formatting for blue underlined text. This frame is anchored to a character in the table but covers the attach point. Its wrap mode is Through which means its white background hides your main text.
Track changes is enabled.
To get rid of the frame, click on its border to select ir (green handles appear) and press Del.
PS1: refrain from using direct formatting, learn how to work with styles. Default Paragraph Style should never be used for any text. It is a technical style intended to configure your preferred defaults which are forwarded to all other styles (until one of them overrides a setting).
PS2: when asking here always mention OS name, exact LO version and save format because there are subtle differences between platforms and most recipes are only valid for .odt (your case).
