When i insert a row into calc, the font for the row is not the default for the sheet.

The inserted row is in a font, size and colour different than the sheet default.

How did you define the default font, size and color of your sheet?

Generally speaking: If this occurs, you did **not** create a customized default template for Calc having the desired settings in cell style *Default* [application level - for all new documents] - or you did **not** modify cell style *Default* in current document [on current document or old documents level]

You cannot insert rows “into calc”. You isert rows, columns, cells into spreadsheets or speradsheets ionto a Calc document.

@dksc,

  • If you insert a row above it will get the styles applied on the above row.
  • If you insert a row below it will get the styles applied on the actual row.
  • If you insert a row below or above the row 1 it will get the styles applied on row 1.

See animated .gif in answer for /question/250935/.

An inserted cell gets its formatting attributes (including character attributes, of course, and also the named cell style if assigned) from the neighbour above if a shift down is involved, and from the neighbour to the left if a shift right is involved.

Insertion with “shift up” or “shift left” is not implemented. Cells leaving the sheet are always do this at bottom or at the extreme right side.
See attached demo. ask283962attributesOfInsertedCells_1.ods

If you insert a row … above the row 1 it will get the style of the row 1. {Cellwise}

I consider this an inconsistent exception, but it’s a fact nonetheless.
A bonus inconsistency:
The mentioned extra does not respectively appiy to cells inserted left of column A.
(Having too slow a perception, I don’t feel sure if this was also demonstrated in the animated images linked to by LeroyG.)

I don’t understand why ‘new’ cells would not inherit the defaults. It makes no sense to me to have defaults which aren’t honoured in execution.
