As per topic. I want to delete some cells, but I can’t find the function in the tabbed interface. The help says it is in the “Sheet” menu, and it is. But where is it in the tabbed interface?
Thanks.
The help refers to menu items so it is best to display the menu. Click the icon with tooltip Menubar to toggle visibility of the menus. In Tabbed it is normally the leftmost icon, next to the Open icon
Thanks for the reply. I found the function on the menu, it just seems to me that it is the sort of function that should be on one of the tabs too, in fact on the Home tab with the delete/insert column/row buttons maybe. For me anyway its something I use more often than merging cells for instance. And insert cells too. I’m going to have to experiment with modifying the interface as suggested by @fpy. Should keep me amused for a while.
Which function? Can you not find it on Layout tab? Or the right-click menu or Context (key between AltGr and Ctrl to the right of the spacebar) menu?
Note that there is limited ability to modify the Tabbed interface (Notebookbar). It is there as sort of training wheels for people coming from Excel where there is a lot of hidden commands that can’t easily be accessed. Better to change to the Standard interface if you don’t mind learning new positions for functions.
Thanks for the reply.
The “delete cells” function is the one I was looking for, but the “insert cells” function would be good too. I had a look at modifying the notebookbar and you are right, modification is limited. I guess allowing too much modification would be very difficult and probably not worth the effort.
I found the insert and delete options on the layout tab under the layout dropdown. Seems like an odd location but that’s just my opinion. Also found it in the context menu, I’m not sure why I missed that before, just not paying attention I guess. I’ve found there are keyboard shortcuts for insert and delete cells too, so I’ll probably use those or the context menu instead of complaining about the lack of a toolbar button.
I like the tabbed interface, I got used to it a lot of years ago (late naughties) when I used to work for a living and it was introduced as standard (on Word). Not sure if I could go back to the old style interface.
