I have a long-time client who insists on using fillable MS Word forms which have been passed down and updated for over a decade. They use “Legacy Form Fields” for text entry fields, check-boxes and drop-downs. While I know what to do in Word, I no longer have it and would like to use LibreOffice going forward.
The problem I encountered is that LibreOffice Writer seems to have no idea what to do with Legacy text form fields. When I open these old documents, I can see the grey fields and enter text, but I can’t change their properties or create new fields. I saw this article for the 6.3 release from 2019 here talk about compatibility with these form fields, but Writer seems to have changed in the interim and none of the options are there anymore. Were Legacy Form Fields moved? Renamed to something else? Or removed from LibreOffice entirely?
