Why does Linux Mint not allow installation of latest Libre Office?

The installed one is ancient. I have used Linux a bit, but I am a novice. The installed one is so old the version number is a single digit.
If I cannot get a later version on Mint, can anyone recommend another suite that is comparable with Libre Office?

There was a change this year to align the first block with the year, and the second with month of intended release. Please see ReleasePlan - The Document Foundation Wiki

I use an older release for my day-to-day work for reasons of consistency and known bugs.

Hello EarnestA…in case you are human…

For unknown reason(s) when I opened Libre Office it was the very latest version.
Thank you for the help.
