I have just installed the latest version of LibreOffice but why does the screen keep freezing frequently when trying to save or edit documents? I am running Windows 8. Could it be that the new version is not fully compatible with Windows 8?
Given the number of threads on this forum dealing with errors and other issues that are tagged windows8 and windows8.1, I would imagine that Windows 8 compatibility is dependent on more than mere Windows 7 compatibility. There are also bugs that show up under the “windows 8” search term.
EDIT: Bug fdo#63877 has been filed by @pje335_NL. Thanks!
I’ve the same problem, but with Win7, and I’m unable to recover file until restart the system
Hello,
it looks like I have got the same problem and have filed a bug for it ( fdo#63877 ).
you can say conformed as you want.
Which version of Java do you have installed? Also, how long have you left it for? Does it eventually come back? What does the system monitor show? High CPU, RAM, other? Which processes? Answers to these questions provide more detail to help others replicate the problem. The fact that others do not get the same problem under Win8 indicates it is likely a system configuration issue.
Because this link is still a top search result in 2015,
I regularly have issues with LibreOffice in Windows 8 caused by a conflict between Libre trying to run splwow64.exe, which seems to conflict with spoolsv.exe which is normally running. Killing spoolsv.exe (Spooler SubSystem App) from the task manager instantly makes LibreOffice respond again. The long-term fix would probably require releasing a 64bit version of LibreOffice for Windows.
Excellent advice. Killing spoolsv.exe, then restarting it when I’m finished editing in LibreOffice Write, does the trick for
me, too, and I’m running an Insider Preview version of Windows 10 Home (Build 14257), too. I hope one of the developers with the power to fix the bug is reading this thread.
I have the same problem (on one of our computers). It uses Windows 7 (as do the others)
For me the same. Running W7 Pro 64b and with latest LO get often freezing.
This could also be a side-effect using documents not created in LibreOffice/OpenOffice and not in odt format.
win8 - Reading all the problems with win8 many of us might get the impression that LibO doesn’t run well under win8. However, I am asking myself how many - for us not visible - problems occur when running MSO under win8?
That’s issue of Microsoft. We only do what we can. User involvement is too ideal for current society, where most people work/play by following rather than work/play via creating/self-discipline.
