I recently updated to 5.3.6 and it worked fine for a couple days. First, it stopped printing and now everything is totally blacked out. Menus are unreadable. I uninstalled and reinstalled and when I first opened my spreadsheet, it was fine. As soon as I started typing, there was no text, just a black box. The menu items are all black boxes. I’ve been using LibreOffice for a year and have been happy until now.
Hello,
Try turning off OpenGL. From menu select Tools->Options then under LibreOffice->View insure Use OpenGL for all rendering is not checked. Select OK. Close all open LO documents. Then see if problem solved.
I cannot do anything because I cannot read any text of any kind in LibreOffice. When I first opened the reinstalled version, I did look in the options and it said OpenGL was disabled. Once I started typing, everything turned black and I now have no way to determine if the setting has changed, simply by my typing. Very frustrating.
Did you try safe mode? You may also update to a 5.4 version. If openGL is the villain, it may be better handled (blacklisted) there.
Otherwise: uninstall 5.3.6 and install again the version that worked for you. The world of spreadsheets wasn’t invented anew for 5.3.
I can’t find any older versions of LibreOffice. I just ran a file repair on it, and so far it is working OK, but it has turned on me before, so I’m crossing my fingers. (The blacking out happens in Writer and Calc.)
This may sound crazy, but I think it’s only turning black if I also have Kaspersky Safe Money running. It’s like Safe Money is censoring my Libre Office documents so even I can’t read them. If I close Safe Money, and reopen my documents, all is well.
