Why is inserting continuous page numbering so difficult?

I like so much in LO, but the page numbering is impossible. In fact, it’s the only thing that may send me back to MSWord. Please, don’t let that happen. Ideally, I’d like the default page setup to
a) number every page except the first
b) top right of every page w/ arabic numerals.

This doesn’t seem like too tall an order, but after more than an hour of searching, I can’t find a clear explanation about how that is to be done. Please help.

Hi Ron Ashkar

  1. Page numbers are typically placed at top or bottom of the page. In LO terms that means that they will be placed within the page Header or Footer.
  2. Headers & Footers are each tied to the Page styles. Therefore, if you want the page number to change (either format, or to be present/not present) you need to use a different Page Style.
  3. Mechanics of Page numbering involve:-
    (menu):InsertFieldsPage Number
  4. Look at Q53521 for step-by-step on Numbering & re-numbering.
