What is the advantage of using the built-in “Passwords for web connections” feature rather than a third-party password manager like KeePass, LastPass, 1Password, etc.?

CONVERTED TO ANSWER, my guess: Doesn’t being built-in already answer that ? The difference probly is password managers like those use an encryption scheme to protect the pws whereas LO might not encrypt them at all.

No, because one would normally want the passwords available outside of LibreOffice as well. That’s one reason I didn’t understand its purpose.

Perhaps there’s more to it than that, but it seems odd to include a password manager “for web connections” in an office applications suite.

LibO is a full fledged office suit and is designed and continuously developed as an office suit. A utilization as a password manager would IMHO only be spin-off.
There’s no point in encrypting the pws if you can easily decrypt them, especially with Open Source code. That’s why FileZilla doesn’t encrypt them.
Just a thought about security, triggered by @rautamiekka 's comment. There is never a 100% security. With a lot of money security can be increased but will always be below 100%. FilleZilla understands this.

Maybe you misunderstood – I was questioning why password management was even included in LO with so many third-party options available that provide it without being application-specific.
