Wrap-to-Window in LibreOffice Writer?

Is there a Wrap-to-Window (or some similar feature) in Writer?

I want something like Word’s Draft view, or WordPad’s Wrap-to-Window feature, which both allow me to enlarge text as much as I want, without losing the view of the rightmost text because it is outside the view window. I know I could copy and past my document back and forth from WordPad to Writer, because I do like–and need–Writer’s other features, but that’s awkward, annoying, and potentially error-prone.

I also know I can put Writer into Web view. That works for small documents, but for big documents (I’m about at 105K words with my current project) Web view gets glitchy: that’s apparently too much data to be safely contained within a single page. I could fiddle around with LIbreOffice options to reduce memory resource usage, etc, but that doesn’t seem ideal. (I have 8GB RAM on my WIndows 10 Thinkpad so I would hope lack of system memory isn’t the issue.)

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance. :grinning:

Font size or Zoom factor?

Change the Font size in the Default Paragraph Style. This will adapt the font size of all dependant styles. After all, you will need to revert the Font size to the “normal” value.

Thanks. I meant Zoom factor; I should have been more clear. With a 12 point Calibri font I need about a 150% to 170% zoom to be able to read the screen comfortably, depending on how tired my eyes are.

Changing the font size and displaying the document in Zoom->Page-Width view is probably about as close as I’m going to come to what I want.

Web view is perfect except it is buggy. I tried using it again today and Writer hung when I resized the window. Too many computations or bad pointers or something.

So, while editing, set the Font size for the Default Paragraph Style to 18 pt, maybe 20 pt.

I’m not certain if this is an answer to your question but try the following.

  1. Open Writer with a document that is giving you some trouble in this respect.

  2. On the Status Bar right at the very bottom of the Writer window look for the percentage sign at the extreme right-hand end of the Status Bar. Right-click on that and try toying around with the various percentage values available.

Thanks, I actually have my document zoomed at 170%. (My eyesight is getting bad in my middle-age. :frowning: )

Increase the right margin width (in the page style settings) so much that the right margin of the page is at the window width.
ADD-ON after comment: Turn on display of rulers, when you zoom in, read the value on the top ruler at the far right side of the text area, let’s say that’s 7 cm, and your page width is 21 cm. Set the right margin to 12 or 14 cm, then the text should wrap at 7 cm. The more you zoom in, the wider the margin should become. I tested that, of course. Just play with those settings and remember that you can’t do any harm that way.

Thanks, that was an interesting suggestion. But big right margins gave me a document with the text column 1 character wide. Does the zoom have to be at 100% for that to work?
