Writer #10 envelop printing

Long time LO user now on the latest version (25 something). I can no longer properly print #10 envelops with the docs and templates i’ve used before.
Although I’ve searched for and found several suggestions, none seem to do the trick.

Perhaps some kind sole would be willing to point to a good solid tutorial or provide instructions to accomplish this (should be) simple task?

Thanks so much in advance.

Have you changed printer? On Brother printers they are called Com-10.

  • What operating system? Click Help > About LibreOffice, then click the icon at the end of the phrase Version Information to copy the details; paste into your question.
  • How do they not print correctly?
  • Do they preview OK in the print dialogue?
  • Can you select the envelope size in the LibreOffice print dialogue?
  • Can you select the size OK in the printers own dialogue setting, from the Properties button?
  • Is the orientation correct in the LibreOffice print dialogue and in printer’s own dialogue?

Nope: Same Brother HL-2270DW networked.

  • What operating system?
    Kernel: 6.8.0-55-generic arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 13.3.0 clocksource: tsc Desktop: Cinnamon v: 6.4.8 tk: GTK v: 3.24.41 wm: Muffin v: 6.4.1 vt: 7 dm: LightDM v: 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 22.1 Xia base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble
Click Help > About LibreOffice, then click the icon at the end of the phrase Version Information to copy the details; paste into your question
    LibreOffice 25.2.1.2 (X86_64).
  • How do they not print correctly?
The output now prints portrait but the envelopes feed landscaped. Meaning that the envelopes feel edge first but the print is sideways rendering it useless. Nothing’s changed except the newer version of LO downloaded from the Libre site and installed from a tar file.
  • Do they preview OK in the print dialogue? The diaglog also appears 90 degress off
  • Can you select the envelope size in the LibreOffice print dialogue? Yes, I select the #10 envelope
  • Can you select the size OK in the printers own dialogue setting, from the Properties button?
  • Is the orientation correct in the LibreOffice print dialogue and in printer’s own dialogue?
    No to both

If you are using Insert > Envelope, have you checked out the tab in the dialogue named Printer? You should be able to set up the envelope and printer in it.

Is the Orientation set to Automatic? If so, try closing the print dialogue and try again to see if the preview is correctly oriented the second time.

Can you set it to Landscape and have it print OK? Or Portrait?

If I click on the inserted envelope (chosen as #10) and then click Format > Page style the envelope is now User and the width is set wider than the height which might confuse the printer driver. Does changing this back to No 10 (width narrower than height) fix it? Or make it worse?

I usually mail merge my envelopes so I use a stand alone template. Does this work?
No10Envelope.odt (22.8 KB)

Thanks. I tried your #10evenlope template and it comes closest to printing a normal envelope. But for me it needs the text boxes aligned and enlarged. I’ve tried to figure that out unsuccessfully so hopefully you could advise how I would go about editing those settings on the supplied template?
Thanks a million so far for your help.

I set this out according to NZ Post Office guidelines even though we don’t use letter size. The addressee frame should expand downwards as it is filled

You can move the frames to where you want by dragging with a mouse or by using the Position and Size dialogue, Format - Image and shape - Position and Size I think (I don’t have computer in front of me). Frame Properties dialogue Format > Frame and Object > Properties > Position and Size

After the frames are positioned as you want you can save as a template. Click File - Template - Save as template, on the dialogue give it a name No 10 envelope and select My Templates as location, OK.

You can add mail merge fields to a new document created from your template if you need that.

More information on mail merge in the Writer Guide, download from English documentation | LibreOffice Documentation - LibreOffice User Guides

I used to Export the document to .pdf and then used to print the envelope from Document Viewer.

Thank you for a working solution AniruddaMohod.
This worked as far as printing now and I appreciate it. I also appreciate EarnsestA1 for his help as well.
