Writer 4.2 - How to print two A5 in one A4

LibreOffice Writer 4.1.5, 4.1.6, 4.2.3, 4.2.4

OS : Windows 7 - 64bit

I can’t print two A5 pages in one A4 in landscape.

File / Print… / Page Layout / Pages per Sheet = 2

LO Writer give me is two A5 page in one A5 page.

but I want two A5 page in one A4 page in landscape.

I try to find in internet but not found the way.

You have to set the paper sheet size explicitly in the printer properties. The initial guess of LibreOffice of the paper sheet size is wrong. And you have to set the paper orientation in the printer properties.

Check the option “Use only paper size from printer preferences” in the tab “Options” in the printing dialog.

A quick and maybe dirty approach I would reformat my A5 page into A4. Increasing the font etc and than print 2 A4 pages on 1 A4 paper.

Another thing I can think about is “brochure printing”; however I never did it. You can have a look at:

I made a test and it works, see attachement: - sorry, pdf files cannot be uploaded.
I did:

• Create a Writer documents with my normal A4 template
• Reformatted it to A5: Format > page > tab page > paper format → A5, orientation portrait > OK
• Set up the printer (pdf995, not the LibO function “export to pdf” to simulate a printer) File > print > page layout: layout pages per sheet → 2 > Ok → got the print out.

Print out:

• 2 A5 pages beside each other on 1 A4 page
• page 1 is first page on the left side, page 2 is on the right side
• page 3 is on the next A4 page at the left, right half is empty because I created only 3 test pages
• header - I have a default setting - are correct.

Brochure is designed to use duplex printing. You would get the first DIN A5 page on the right half of the paper sheet and the second DIN A5 page on the left half of the paper. Besides that, the first guess of the paper sheet size is wrong for brochure layout too.
