# [Writer] Chapter numbering level two takes wrong level one

Operating System: Ubuntu 15.04

I connected numbering levels with heading 1, 2, etc.
This is how it should look like:
1.
1.1
1.1.1.

2.1.
2.1.1.

and so on…

But now in chapter two (heading 2) it takes 1.1 as second level numbering instead of 2.1.

So this is what it looks like:
1.
1.1.
1.1.1.

1.2
1.2.1

How can I say it is now Chapter 2 level 2? It always takes Chapter one level 2…

Not sure if this is the solution, but in “Heading 1” paragraph style (or the one that restarts your chapter account), in “Outline&Numbering” tab, you’ll find a “Restart at this paragraph” check related with line numbering, check if it could refer to chapter numbering too… Regards

No, as you pointed out, the check box is retlated to line numbering (which numbers appears in a margin). Usually, chapter numbering “accidents” are caused by incorrectly mixing headings and lists. OP never went back to attach the “faulty” file for detailed analysis. Odds are high that the second heading starting chapter 2 is not styled Heading 1 but something else. Without the file, we can’t say.
