Hello
writer crashes multiple time and I found years ago to disable skia.
so why even in version 24.8.3 and windows 11 intel core i5 this bug did not resolved?

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

safe mode doesnot work just disable skia

Core i5 should be OK if you tick Force Skia software rendering also.
.
It is a limitation in either the integrated graphics chip of i5 or or its driver. Updating the driver with the latest Intel driver helps. If the i5 chip is a very old version, then maybe new drivers are not available.

The new Intel CPUs use Iris integrated graphics which is a bit better and i don’t think they need the software rendering turned
.
With my older chip I still have Force Skia software rendering turned on because I get odd effects in Calc formula bar, even with current drivers, but I don’t get crashes.

Maybe report a bug to Intel?

Did you report the bug? (At bugzilla?)

Another point: Is your computer using only integrated cpu-graohics or is there a graphics card?

Lets forget this is not the site where bugs are reported or development decisions are made… It seems there is a feature, wich doesn’t work for you. So TDF shall remove it. Consider the possibillity there are 2 persons out there who like to use Skia. What then: Democratic vote?? Or preference of your use-case?

Try updating the graphics driver with Intel tools.

I update my driver to the latest. I have a .docx file which I cannot share and it is just 8 page simple text with a special font which I did not installed. when I open it by libre 24 It will crash and when I install that font It will be fine. I test this procedure on windows 7 and libre 7.6 and with or without that font file will be open

Hi, it is much easier to help if we can check if we can reproduce your problem. Can you

  • open your file with win 7 / LO 7.6
  • remove all confidential content
  • save
  • open with LO 24 and doublecheck, if the error is still there,
  • an then post the now unconfidential doc?
