Writer crashes when creating a table of contents

As of Writer 24.8.5.2, the problem has already been resolved.

The problem occurs exclusively when I try to insert a table of contents into a document created from a template.

For example, I create a blank document, then open a template document by selecting one of the ones Writer offers. I then try to insert a table of contents in that document. Writer crashes with an error.

OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Writer: 24.2.7.2

Could you be more specific? Reopen your question by pressing … below it then on the “pencil” tool to enter edit mode so that all information is grouped together without the need for scrolling.

Mention OS name (from the screenshots, I assume some Linux distro, maybe Ubuntu), LO version (don’t say “latest” as this is meaningful only for your own configuration we have no idea about) [and save format – which is not yet relevant as you crash before save, but mention it anyway].

Step by step procedure (is it as straightforward as File>New >Templates, select one, then Insert>TOC & Index>TOC, Index or Bibliography and crash on OK?).

Which template is selected? Have you already added some contents inside the new document?

As you correctly pointed out, my operating system is Linux Ubuntu. You correctly pointed out the sequence of my actions. The “Default” was selected as the template.

Sorry for the inconvenience, the problem was that I didn’t update the Writer version . It was a very stupid thing to do… After the update, this problem is no longer there.

Should I delete this post or somehow mark it that it is not relevant at this time? I’m just new to the site.

No. This may also be someone else’s problem. It draws attention on a real problem with a simple solution. Don’t be ashamed for such issues: Errare humanum est … sed perseverare diabolicum.
