Writer crashes with two documents open

If I have one document open everything is fine. If I open a second document for reference both will crash at some point. I can force this behaviour by toggling Print Preview using the toolbar button, or the output to PDF button. Unprovoked, I think it is when Autosave kicks in that they crash. I have lost a lot of work through this as the Autosave is one of the triggers, the last few minutes work isn’t saved.

You might get better stability with rendering by clicking Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and ticking both boxes: Use Skia for al rendering and Force Skia software rendering.
.
I assume you unticked Skia for stability reasons related to your graphics card. Ticking Force Skia software rendering takes the load off the card but you still get the benefits from Skia.

I suggest to file a bug on this.
.
As I read “preview”: May not be related, but there was a crash reported on toc-work, while preview selected.

Bugs should be submitted directly to Bugzilla:

I reinstalled LO using the long-term stable edition instead of the bleeding edge one. Same problem. I tried changing the hardware acceleration setting but it didn’t make much difference.

.docx ?

The main document I’m working on is odt. The second document might be docx or odt, I’ve not delved any deeper. I’m not sure why the document file type makes any difference. Surely once the file is open in Writer they are structured the same in memory? Seems a bit mad to have two different memory models.

Are they two views on the same document or two windows on different documents?

Completely different documents from different folders
