Writer - Cut Paste / Click & Drag Text

I’m a recent convert from Office and I’m missing how to replicate a feature I used on a very regular basis.

I have a list of text e.g…

Item 1
Item 2
Item 3
Item 4
Item 5

I want to re-order them so click on the left of item 3 and drag it in front of item 1

Item 3Item 1
Item 2
Item 4
Item 5

LibreOffice shows them as above and I have to manually add a carriage return. Office will add a carriage return / line break whatever it’s called and move the items as below once the item is dragged / pasted:

Item 3
Item 1
Item 2
Item 4
Item 5

Is there any way in LibreOffice to recreate this function?

If you include the preceding paragraph mark in your copy, you have to position the cursor before the paragraph mark where you want to paste it, in other words at the end of the preceding line. In your example, you needed to place the cursor between “item 1” and the paragraph mark that follows it, in order to get the look correct.

If you include the following paragraph mark in your copy instead, then you can position the cursor at the head of the line where you want the paste to be.

Thank you for that.
I’m really going to have to retrain my brain / muscle memory.

Drag the preceding paragraph mark as well.

When I do that (moving item 4 in front of item 2) I get:

Item 1
----- There is a blank line here (removed by forum unless I add some text here) ----
Item 4Item 2
Item 3
Item 5

Move item 4 to after item 1.

It depends on how you think about your list. I work on the resulting order that I want to see, 1 then 4 then 2.

If you think I want 4 before 2 then use the method of selecting down to the start of next paragraph. This requires a little more skill with selection however.
