Writer doesn't show Word track changes

This issue started Nov. 10. My work products are created in LO Writer but edited by someone else in Word online. Now when I get the document back, track changes do not show up.
Version: 7.4.2.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 382eef1f22670f7f4118c8c2dd222ec7ad009daf
CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL
I use LO on my PC with Windows 10 and my laptop with Windows 11. This problem happens on both. I tried resetting LO to safe mode but still could not see track changes so I don’t think my user profile is corrupt.
Appreciate any help.

NEVER edit your important documents with foreign editors in foreign file formats.
When somebody else changes some content of format properties in a COPY of your document with a foreign editor, it is better to repeat the changes manually in the original document. Always store more than one backup copies of your important document - with timestaps in the file names.

  • Maybe the another editor person switched off the “track changes” feature in the document.
  • Maybe the another editor software version can not handle the tracking changes feature and it eliminated this property of the document.
  • Maybe the another editor software has an incompatible tracking changes feature what has been implemented into your document.
  • … and there are many other possible reasons…

Can the Word online save into ODF file format? If not, which filefomat was returned from the another editor person?
ALWAYS use thew international standard ODF file formats with the LibreOffice. There is not (never weas and never will be 100% compatibility betwenn the different file formats. You always will lose some formatting properties with the converting procedure into foreign file formats.

Can you upload your sample file here?

Note that Word for the web is able to track changes; and when you export from it as DOCX, the tracked changes are there (visible both in Word and Writer); but exporting from Word (both desktop and web) to ODT drops all tracking, as if you accepted them all - this is not a LibreOffice issue, but Word’s poor ODF support.

You may play with it here.

This seems to answer my issue. I think the person making the changes exported the file as .odt. I tried track changes in Word online and the changes I made were all gone when I downloaded the .odt file. I’ll talk to my colleague and see if we can resolve this. Thanks very much.
